ARTIST BIO

Heather Michele Meyer is a career artist and multifarious human with decades of experience in classical vocal performance, stage acting, aerial arts, and the business of wine.

Currently, she specializes in aerial silks and corde lisse, and creating original works that fuse aerial movement with 21st century classical vocal technique.

After going to school for vocal performance in both Santa Barbara and San Francisco, she moved to New York City in 2005, where she eventually began studying circus arts at The Muse Brooklyn, Circus Warehouse and Aerial Arts NYC. In recent years, she has also trained extensively at NECCA, and with Paper Doll Militia.

As a soprano in the operatic world, Heather made her professional debut as the Governess in Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and sang multiple Mozart and Puccini roles in theaters across the United States. Since 2014, she has focused almost exclusively on the works of living composers such as David T. Little, Aleksandra Vrebalov and David Lang. Her solo performances took her to venues as varied as National Sawdust, The Joyce Theater, and the Park Avenue Armory. She has also sung on the stages of Carnegie Hall, the NY State Theater, and with the NY Philharmonic as a professional chorister.

Within her circus artistry, Heather explores multi-disciplinary collaborations, including the immersive show, The Tiger’s Bride, combining theater, aerial silks, and folk singing. Heather has performed with Bindlestiff Family Cirkus as part of their virtual Open Stages, and debuted aerial singing pieces with both New Camerata Opera at Dixon Place, and Circus Moxie at Brooklyn Art Haus. She is most proud of her recent residency grant with Hupstate Circus and the Saltonstall Foundation in April 2024 to develop her one woman show, debuting in 2025.

In addition to her performing schedule, you can find her on teaching and management staff at Aerial Arts NYC, extolling the virtues of Austrian wine as a regional sales manager for Winemonger Imports, and relaxing at home in Queens with her singer/composer/sound designer partner and their two cats, Fang and Squeak.
